Wings of Aid & Peace

Turning Humanitarian Priorities Into Practical Action

Wings of Aid & Peace (WAP) develops projects to translate identified humanitarian needs and programme priorities into structured action. Each project should have a defined purpose, target population, geographic focus, implementation period, activities and expected results. Information published in this section reflects approved WAP projects and should clearly distinguish between planned, active and completed interventions.

OUR APPROACH TO PROJECTS

From Identified Needs to Responsible Action

WAP seeks to develop projects based on an understanding of humanitarian needs, community priorities, operational context and organizational capacity.

Project development should consider:

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT

Building Projects Around Evidence and Context

Project development begins with understanding the problem the intervention is intended to address. Depending on the nature and scale of the proposed intervention, project development may draw on:
Project design should identify clear objectives, activities, expected results, implementation arrangements and monitoring requirements.
COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

Projects Informed by the People They Are Intended to Serve

WAP seeks to involve affected people and communities appropriately in the development and implementation of humanitarian projects. Depending on the context, participation may include:

Participation should be meaningful, inclusive, safe and appropriate to the context.

PROJECT CYCLE

From Assessment to Learning

WAP seeks to manage projects through a structured project cycle.

The scale and complexity of each stage should reflect the nature, duration, risk and resources of the project.

PROJECT STATUS

Planned

A project has been approved for planning or preparation but implementation has not yet started.

Active

Implementation of the approved project is underway.

Completed

The planned implementation period has ended and project activities have been completed.

Suspended

Implementation has been temporarily suspended.

Closed

The project has completed the applicable closure process.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

Clear Purpose and Direction

Each project should identify what it is intended to achieve.

Public project information should accurately reflect approved project objectives.

TARGET POPULATION

Understanding Who the Project Is Intended to Support

Projects should define the population or communities the intervention is designed to support. Selection approaches should be based on relevant programme criteria and humanitarian considerations.

Depending on the project, these may include:

Selection processes should seek to reduce discrimination, exclusion, exploitation and inappropriate influence.

VERIFIED RESULTS

Reporting What Has Actually Been Achieved

WAP seeks to publish project results based on appropriate monitoring and verification.

Verified results may include:

Results should identify the relevant reporting period where appropriate.

EXPECTED RESULTS

What the Project Intends to Achieve

Expected results describe what a project plans to deliver or contribute toward.

They may include:

Expected results must not be presented as achievements before they have been verified.

01

MONITORING, EVALUATION, ACCOUNTABILITY & LEARNING

Using Evidence to Improve Projects

WAP seeks to integrate Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) into project management.

Depending on project scale and design, this may include:

Monitoring information should support both accountability and programme improvement.

02

ACCOUNTABILITY TO AFFECTED PEOPLE

Information, Participation and Feedback

People affected by WAP projects should have appropriate opportunities to understand relevant aspects of the assistance provided and to communicate with the organization.

WAP seeks to strengthen:

Feedback should be considered as an important source of information for improving programme quality.

03

SAFEGUARDING IN PROJECTS

Protecting People From Harm

Safeguarding considerations should be integrated throughout the project cycle. This includes appropriate attention to:

Sensitive safeguarding information must not be published on public project pages.

04

CONFLICT SENSITIVITY

Understanding the Effects of Our Decisions

Projects operating in conflict-affected environments should consider how humanitarian assistance may interact with local relationships, resources and tensions.

Project teams should consider:

WAP seeks to avoid actions that could unintentionally contribute to tension, exclusion or harm.

05

PARTNERSHIPS IN PROJECTS

Working Together Where Collaboration Adds Value

Some projects may involve collaboration with other organizations, institutions or community structures. Project partnerships should be based on:

A partner should be identified publicly only where the relationship is verified and public recognition is appropriate.

06

DONOR INFORMATION

Responsible Recognition

Where a project receives external funding, donor information may be displayed where appropriate and permitted. Public donor recognition should accurately reflect the relevant funding relationship.

WAP should not present an organization as a donor merely because:

Donor names and logos should be used only where the funding relationship and applicable visibility requirements are confirmed.

07

PROJECT REPORTING

Documenting Progress and Results

Projects may generate approved public reports during or after implementation. These may include:

Public reports should be made available through the Resource Library where appropriate. Not every internal project report is intended for public publication.

QUARTERLY REPORTS

Periodic Reporting as Projects Develop

Where appropriate, WAP projects may produce quarterly reports summarizing implementation progress during a defined reporting period. A quarterly report may include:
Quarterly reporting should begin only when there is an actual project and a meaningful reporting period.
PROJECT COMPLETION

Closing Projects Responsibly

Project completion involves more than reaching the final implementation date. Depending on the project, closure may include:

Public project status should be updated when the applicable closure process is complete.

Core Values
EVALUATION & LEARNING

Learning From Experience

WAP seeks to learn from project implementation and use evidence to strengthen future humanitarian action.

Learning may come from:

Where appropriate, approved evaluations and learning resources may be published through the Resource Library.
